Chapter 7
Sorrow All Around
Gonet sat grief stricken on the ship as it passed out of the blue planet’s atmosphere.
“How could you do that!” he cried, tears running down his face, “how could you just leave her! We have to go back! Putluck, turn this ship around immediately!”
“No Gonet!” Putluck said calmly, “there’s nothing we can do. We only have enough fuel to get us home. If we turn around now, we’ll never make it home alive. We’ll go back to Zoto and refuel, then return for her.”
“By then it may be too late!” Gonet cried, “if she had just listened to me when I said stay on the ship!”
“Don’t you dare blame Drilla!” Gwana cried, “if anyone’s to blame, it’s you Gonet! You’re the one who insisted she come with us!”
“That’s enough!” Putluck cried, “this bickering is getting us know where! The only way we’ll be able to help Drilla and Glarca is if we work together. We’ll do everything in our power to get Drilla and Glarca back Gonet, I promise you that.” As Putluck finished speaking, Gonet jumped in,
“What if something happens to her and the baby before we can return? She may not be able to handle the food on that planet. Or worse, what if those hostel beings k, kill her!” he finished, a fresh wave of tears flooding out of his eyes.
“There there Gonet.” Gwana soothed, “everything will be alright. We’ll do all we can to get Drilla and little Glarca safely back in your arms.”
Back on Earth, Drilla sat frozen with fear in a little room with no windows at the top of a tower, Glarca held tightly in her arms.
“Don’t worry my little Glarca.” She said gently, trying to soothe a whimpering Glarca, “we’ll find a way out of this.” She stopped talking instantly and shrank down farther in her seat when she heard the two strange creatures who had captured her talking.
“Have you gotten her to eat Johnson?” a deep male voice boomed.
“No Flan, she won’t touch the food.”
“Damn!” the deep male voice known as Flan cried, “if we can’t get her to eat, then the infant will die, and if he dies then we won’t be able to show him to the world. I have no use for the female, except to keep the infant alive. If you can’t get that creature to eat, then we’ll have to find a way to keep the infant alive ourselves. Now go, get that creature to eat!”
Drilla sat shivering in her chair as the creature with blond hair entered her small room. Fearing for Glarca, she held him even closer. He began to wale hungrily, and she rocked him gently, never taking her eyes off the blond haired creature. She jumped when he spoke to her.
“your baby is hungry.” He said gently, “he’ll die if you don’t eat. You must eat. I’m not going to hurt you, I never wanted to take you away from your family in the first place. I’ll make you a promise. If you eat, I’ll find a way to get you back to your family.” Drilla looked at this strange creature, mistrust written all over her face. All she wanted was to get home to Gonet, she missed him so much. She wished with all her heart that she had never left that ship, that she had listened to Gonet.
